Moments in Time

There are lots of things
That money can't buy.....
The scent of a rose,
The blue of the sky,
The sound of a bird
Singing at dawn,
Memories that stay
When the years have gone..... --

Family History and Genealogy Swap Meet
Saturday, April 21st
9:30-6:00 P.M.

Did your ancestors help settle the western part of Upshur County, Texas? Have you ever wondered how life might have been for them? Would you like to trace your roots, but don't know how to start? Are you interested in in the history and the families that settled this part of the county? If so, you are invited......

A group of local researchers are hosting a family history and genealogy swap meet on Saturday, April 21st, from 9:30-6 P.M.. This event will be held at the Blackstone Ridge Homestead, nine miles west of Gilmer on F.M. 49, between Hopewell and Little Mound.

All descendants of the first settlers of this area are encouraged to bring their research to share. Scanners and printers will be available for copies.

Lots of  western Upshur County's history, along with family research, pictures, and documents will be on display in the private research "librarie" on the property.

Many describe the day as an old fashioned reunion of those interested in this area's past and present. The atmosphere will be relaxed, informal and friendly. Bring your lawn chairs and plan to spend the day visitng, while sharing and comparing notes.

Food concessions will be available for lunch and snacks

Cline's Country Show and The Steadfast Southern Gospel Trio
will entertain during the day. We hope you will come for the entertainment even if you can't spend the day. One member of the Trio has roots in this area. Most will remember her as Jo Ann Steelman.

The topic of the day will be "How to Overcome Research Roadblocks". Those attending will receive "how to" hints to overcome that elusive ancestor. Representatives of the DAR and Sons of the Confederacy will be available
to help with questions on how to join these organizations.

Everyone is welcome, so help spread the word!
