Whether you come to the
Blackstone Ridge Homestead
for a day or a week,
to trace your "roots", work on ancestry art or heritage scrapbooks,
sit on the front porch and rock, bird watch,
or pick wildflowers, we hope you leave with
"Wonderful Memories".
We have done extensive research on the first settlers of western Upshur County, along with their descendants and ancestors.
This information is available in our 'librarie', for those researching this area.
We have numerous books on these families for sale. Email bsrmit@etex.net if interested.
Every year, a group of neighbors and local businesses host an event that is called the "Blackstone Ridge Country Gathering". The best description of this event is a big reunion of people who have ties, either present or past, to this area (western Upshur County). However, everyone is welcome.
There are great bandstand activities throughout the day, which include local musicians, a puppet show, a quilt auction, and guest speakers. A local Civil War group and an Old West group attend. Both groups are very knowledgeable about their time period and love to visit with all that attend.
Be sure to make plans to stay for the FREE bluegrass concert, starting at 6 P.M.
We encourage anyone with roots in western Upshur County to come and set up a table to identify the families they are researching, along with their research, documents, and any pictures they are willing to share. Also, we encourage anyone who has written books on the history of western Upshur County to bring them to sell. There is no charge to set up. It is a great way to meet others that share ones’ same interest. We will have several guest speakers that have done major research of the families in this area.
Pre-registration is required, for those that will be setting up tables, so that we can make known in our press releases, the families that will be represented. The local newspaper is one of our sponsors, and they do a great job of promoting the event.
For more information, please feel free to email me at bsrmit@etex.net. We hope you will pass this information to others you know, who might be interested. They are invited to come and walk about, visiting with the researchers that are set up, or they can contact me to be listed as a participant. "The more the merrier."
This is just a day in the country, to kick back, relax, and have fun. This event started in 2004. The date is Saturday, April17th. There is no charge for attendance, and the general public is invited.
